Justin Edinburgh: Leyton Orient manager and former Tottenham defender dies, aged 49
Justin Edinburgh, the Leyton Orient manager and former Tottenham defender, has died at the age of 49.Edinburgh was rushed to hospital earlier this week after falling ill, and his untimely passing was confirmed in a Leyton Orient statement on Saturday.

3Edinburgh has tragically passed away just weeks after guiding Leyton Orient back into the EFLThe statement read: “It is with profound and utmost sadness that Leyton Orient announces its manager Justin Edinburgh has passed away.“Justin suffered a cardiac arrest last Monday and passed away on Saturday.”The former left-back played in the Spurs teams that won the 1991 FA Cup and the 1999 League Cup, and also represented Southend and Portsmouth.Edinburgh had a successful career in management after hanging up his boots, leading both Newport and Orient into the EFL and also being in charge of Gillingham and Northampton.Leyton Orient chairman Nigel Travis added: We are completely heartbroken by this tragedy.“All our thoughts and love are with the Edinburgh family and we know from the messages that have flooded into the club over the last week that the wider football world will share our sentiments.”Edinburgh had just guided Orient to promotion back to the English Football League after taking over in November 2017 as the club began an extensive rebuild.

Such sad news. RIP Justin Edinburgh.“The League Managers Association paid tribute to Edinburgh, with chairman Howard Wilkinson calling him a “true professional”.Wilkinson said: “A hard-working man who became successful as a player at the highest level of the game and turned his love of football into a life-long career as a coach and as a manager.“At a time when he should be celebrating the success of his team and preparing for the rewards of league football next season, he has been lost to the game and to his community too soon.”
