Tony Cascarino urges Millwall to ‘get rid’ of those fans ‘proud’ of causing trouble in passionate talkSPORT rant
Tony Cascarino has urged Millwall to “get rid” of the small portion of their fan base who ensure the club’s reputation remains one of the poorest in the football world.Cascarino, a Millwall fan who went on to represent his boyhood club as a player, was discussing the Lions on talkSPORT in the wake of Saturday evening’s memorable defeat of Everton. The Championship strugglers dumped Everton out the FA Cup by claiming a 3-2 win courtesy of Murray Wallace’s injury-time winning goal, but the match was marred by two big incidents involving the club’s supporters.Millwall’s defeat of Everton will go down in the club’s history3

There was a brawl before kick-off during which an Everton fan was slashed across the face, while a small group also allegedly directed racially abusive chanting towards the visiting supporters during the match.Millwall released a statement condemning the chantthat they would be ‘rather be a P*** than a Scouse’ and confirmed that anyone identified to be guilty of such abuse will be banned from The Den for life.Cascarino is sure it is only a small group of people involved in such incidents which shine Millwall under a negative light, and he has urged the club to deal with those “proud” of their anti-social and discriminatory behaviour.“I played for the club, and yesterday was fantastic,” Cascarino said on talkSPORT.“My concern is – I feel embarrassed for my own club.“This is another incident in what is happening to a club I have great affection for. “I just feel this has to stop with Millwall fans.“Yes, there were two sets of fans – I can’t speak about Everton fans as I don’t know what their behaviour is – but I’ve got friends who follow Millwall and they pride themselves on their reputation of being notorious.“It makes my stomach turn when I see what is happening with certain individuals at this football club, because it is a small minority who keep doing it.“The list is endless.A huge brawl broke out between Millwall and Everton supporters outside Surrey Quays station3

“Millwall have never been able to shake this reputation – why? Because there are a certain number of fans at that football club who just want to keep it. They don’t want it [the reputation] to ever go.“When I saw the images I was like ‘not again’…“There are a number [of people who cause trouble] and they are proud of it.“Get rid of it!”Millwall have pledged to ban for life any fans found guilty of racist chanting while the FA have launched an investigation.“Millwall Football Club is aware of, and extremely disappointed by, a video circulating online displaying alleged racist chanting during Saturday’s victory over Everton,” read a statement from the Championship club.“The club will, as is commonplace following such incidents, work with all relevant authorities during investigations into the matter and look to identify individuals involved. Anyone identified and guilty of such abuse will be banned from The Den for life.”Everton encouraged any fans who attended the game and witnessed incidents in or around the stadium to contact them with any information which may help the investigation. Anti-discrimination group Kick It Out condemned the alleged chants and called for action to be taken.“The racist chanting heard from some Millwall supporters during yesterday’s match is disgusting and typical of mass discriminatory chants that continue to go unpunished,” a statement said.“We reiterate our message: racial hatred – and all forms of discrimination – have no place in society, especially not in 2019. There is no reason why a footballing environment should be the exception to this rule.“Kick It Out wants to see the relevant authorities take swift, firm and decisive action against the perpetrators.”
